What a day looks like for three-year-olds at Small Scholars Learning Academy.
In the Preschool room for three-year-olds, the day moves between group time and open play. Children choose blocks, puzzles, and picture books, then come together for songs and stories. Teachers sit low at the tables and join in, asking questions, naming colors and shapes, and helping children take turns.
Throughout the day children touch language arts, literacy, math, science, and gross and fine motor play. They sort, count, and build. They pour water, cut with safety scissors, and paint. They practice putting on their own coat and cleaning up, which builds the independence three-year-olds crave.
Teachers praise effort out loud. A child who finishes a puzzle or helps a friend hears it. That steady attention helps children feel secure enough to try the next thing, and it builds the social and emotional skills that carry into pre-K.
Small Scholars is a family-owned school, previously known as Short Stuff. The new owners are on site on different days and welcome kids and parents. The center serves infants six weeks through school age, with rooms for infants, toddlers, two-year-olds, preschool, and pre-K children four to five. Before and after school programs are available, and transportation is offered in the Methacton School District. Ask which schedule fits your family.
Safety comes first, and staff watch the rooms and yard throughout the day. Children have room to move, climb, and build physical skills while adults stay close. The center is dual licensed by the Department of Welfare and the Department of Education, and is a member of the NAEYC. Ask to see the classroom and outdoor space on your tour.
