How we see children
At Small Scholars, we work to strike a balance between academic instruction and play. Children learn letters and numbers, and they also get time to build with blocks, dig in sand, and make a mess with paint. We think both matter. The school years begin in September, and our curriculum is enhanced with creative arts, science, literature, and reading readiness. We have been part of this community for more than a decade.
Walk into a room and you will see children scattered in small groups. Some are experimenting with colors and textures at the art table. Others are testing how things work at the science station. Teachers move between groups, sitting at eye level, asking questions, and joining play when an invitation comes. The pace is calm, with enough time for children to finish a thought before the day shifts.
We are proud members of the NAEYC. The school is dual licensed by the Department of Welfare and the Department of Education. Our director brings 28 years of experience, and many of our teachers have been here for more than a decade. That kind of steadiness shows up in the rooms every day.

What you notice in practice
Teachers work at eye level, kneeling down to talk with children rather than over them. They follow a child's interest — if a group is fascinated by a puddle, that becomes the morning's science. Activities with colors and textures help children develop a sense of self and stretch their imagination. Small groups let each child get attention and try things without a crowd.
Rooms are set up in zones for different kinds of work: art, blocks, books, science, and open floor space for free play. Materials sit on low shelves so children can choose what they need. The day moves between active and quiet, group time and free play, with transitions kept gentle. Children know what comes next, and that helps them relax into the day.
How we work with families
At pickup, teachers tell you what your child did and how they ate and slept. If you have a question, ask. Our director has 28 years of experience, and many teachers have been here more than 10 years. We are dual licensed by the Department of Welfare and the Department of Education.
The first weeks are about your child feeling safe and known. We keep the routine consistent and tell you how the day went. You are the primary influence in your child's growth, and we want you comfortable with the care. Call to ask how we handle settling in.
