Small Scholars balances academic instruction with play. Children work on letters and numbers, then head outside to run and dig. The goal is academic success without losing the part where kids get to be kids. The school has been family-owned for more than a decade, and the owners are on site different days, greeting parents and children by name.
Walk in and you hear both things at once: a teacher reading aloud, and blocks crashing down. Small Scholars keeps academic instruction and play in balance, so kids can be kids while they learn. The rooms are set up for that mix, with space to work at a table and room to move.
The new owners, a family, are here on different days. They know the kids and greet the parents by name. Staff have been here a long time, and that steadiness shows in how calmly the rooms run. You can ask about teacher tenure on your tour.
What a day looks like
Mornings start soft. Your child finds a familiar spot, a teacher says hello, and the room settles into free play. Some children go straight to the blocks. Others need a few minutes beside you before they let go. Teachers follow each child's lead. Ask about drop-off routines.
Free play runs indoors or out, depending on weather. Playgrounds are separated by age group, so little ones climb and run with their own size. Then come small-group learning, lunch, and rest. Your child's teacher can tell you the exact lunch and nap schedule.
The afternoon is quieter. Children rest, wake at their own pace, and drift back into play. At pickup, a teacher tells you one real thing from the day, not a report card. If something happened, you hear it from them first. Ask how they share daily notes.
How we work with families
At pickup you get a teacher's attention, not a sign-out sheet. Ask anything: how your child ate, who they played with, whether they napped. Staff here are valued for their skill with children and their commitment to families. If you need a longer conversation, ask for a time.
New children settle at their own speed. Some walk right in; others need you close for a few days. The school is designed for a safe, consistent day attuned to your child's growth. Tell us what soothes your child at home, and we build the first weeks around that.

Get in touch
Call the school or send an email with your child's age and the days you need. A teacher or the director will get back to you and answer questions about the program and openings.
Tour the room
See the classroom your child would join and meet the teachers who run it. Ask any questions you have about the day.
Enroll and settle in
Complete your enrollment paperwork and plan a first week that fits your child's routine, whether that means shorter days or a familiar comfort item from home. We will walk you through what to bring and how drop-off will go.

What should my child bring on the first day?
Pack a change of clothes, a comfort item for rest, and anything your child needs for eating or sleeping. Label everything with your child's name. A small bag that fits their cubby works well.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
Schedules depend on the age group and what openings we have. Ask us what is available for your child's age and the days you need.
What if there is no place right now?
You can ask to be told when a place opens for your child's age. We will note your name and call you as soon as we have a spot.
